I tried things your way, fought 'till the bitter end I'd rather break my back than break my heart again Now I play for the gents, sing for the ladies, riding the rails in to the eighteen eighties I'm livin' in the Garden of Eden 'cause I got a garden of weed in my yard In a world where the women are gussied and preened I'd sure miss g-strings riding up blue jeans But that's OK 'cause a smile on the street is sweeter any day Could there be a happy place for Mike Tea to find some peace of mind? It seems to me the struggle's been the same through every day and age Stop your car by the side of a quiet country road take a moment to ponder his weathered stone If that's all he leaves behind that would be just fine for Mike Tea in 1870 Could there be a happy place for Mike Tea?

Coincidence and history made kings of you and me And after years of being down, you know I'd still agree Our gift was more fun than anyone who's ever lived before I'd taste sweet perfume all day And then I'd say,”In this house all we have is fun” If I believed in blaming one another for the things we do Well I've forgiven me, 'cause I've forgiven you Yes, I've changed my song And here's the new song: I like smokin' great big doobies Great big doobies all day long In this house, all we have is fun.

Old Soldier 03:14
Technology could feed our greed through kinder means And lasting peace crept up on us like rust on idle machines Weapon's worth declined to where they were abandoned in the fields And I'd have never found old soldier had I not explored the thorns in which he lay concealed Grease and art, piece and part He was restored By day I worked beneath his shade At night, I slept aboard I learned old soldier's form and function Science now a fire in my hands This dream delivered to my door soon breathed the blue sky though turbofans Borne across oceans Riding the wind like a cloud Or racing through space on a nuclear explosion On a backdrop of nebular shroud Technology could feed our greed through kinder means.

Treeline 05:01
Ingenious of our fathers to brave this land But I believe there's warmer climes where I could raise this clan My skin is fit to live here, beneath this fur My mind is fit and free to choose to live where I prefer So lover in hand, baby in tow and the North wind on our backs It shows me the door, dares me to stay then sweeps the tundra clean of tracks I'm goin' where the candy grows on trees and the only shirt you need is sunshine My heart it lives with you dear when my body is far from home So when the daylight tide recedes I say it's time for us to go I'm goin' where the candy grows on trees And the only shirt you need is sunshine Smell the flowers and smoke the leaves I'm goin' where the candy grows on trees

When the moon sets sail When the slugs and snails stroll along their glistening trails On doorsteps and in alleyways dusky fireflies are seen to play I'd sing like a cricket for you My walk is long Every step I take a chance to steal a kiss on the castle lawn Is this the way I'd walk you home? Every sidewalk rowed with flowers - never planted, yet let to grow I'd sing like a cricket for you A tree falls in the forest A star falls just out of sight Though unheard, it's still a thrill to sing for you tonight I'd sing like a cricket for you.

The Park 05:14
All through town run rivulets of wilderness Corridors for rural mysteries Bend down low, hide behind the goldenrod to find a world seen through the hoverfly's eyes Every crack and every seam, the grass grows through in spite So I know the universe teems with life If this town had a heart, it would be the park And the heart is where the greatest secrets lie In between the old hotel and the track suit saloon is an alley that a modern sign hides This valley is aligned so that a day's worth of sunshine finds this sliver of urban countryside

In a child's eyes the airplane seems to soar among the clouds And in her ears the highway howls with all the unknown souls and all their fears When was the last time I strained my eyes to see the horizon? When was the last time I closed my eyes to dream? I love to drive, but it's been too long since I've been along for the ride Where do we find the will? A wind to fill these broken sails? Look at me, all I've done is fail And yet I still believe What's wrong with taking it easy? What's wrong with a wasted afternoon? What's wrong with impossible dreaming never intending to make those dreams come true?

Ugly people in love are the people that know that love ain't just for show Ugly people in love are the people who say love can find a way Dumb people helping out their brothers A weak hand pulling with the others Puts you and me to shame So if you think you're all used up hold on, there's hope because Ugly people in love are the people that know that love ain't just for show Ugly people in love are the people who say love can find a way Dumb people helping out their brothers Cheesy nicknacks proudly displayed and passionately related So if you think you're all used up hold on, there's hope because Ugly people in love are the people who say You take what you got and you put it on parade
